Runes
A rune is a stone you bind to a place. Use it, and you are carried back there from anywhere out in the open.
Open your runestones with R, or from the phone's menu: a board of carved sockets, a stone in each you own. Click the empty socket marked + to buy a blank stone for 5 runeshards; you can keep 20. A new stone is dull slate named "Rune 1", "Rune 2" and so on, each with a carving of its own, and its carving glows once it is bound. Click a stone to choose it; it is shown large beside the board.
- Rename a rune: type a name of up to 24 characters and press Rename or Enter.
- Bind here ties the chosen rune to where you stand, and the way you face. Binding takes 10 seconds standing still: the panel closes, a bar fills under the rune's name while its carving is cut into the ground around you and the stone rises to hang over your head, and the rune takes with a flash. Take a step before then and the bind breaks, and the rune stays as it was. A rune that is bound already can be bound again somewhere else: press Rebind here, then once more to be sure.
- Teleport carries you to where it is bound, and so does double-clicking a glowing stone. A blank rune goes nowhere. A rune then needs time to recharge before it carries you again: 30 minutes for a new one. While it recharges, its Teleport button counts the time down.
- Raise a rune a level to make it recharge sooner. Each level costs runedust and asks a higher character level, as the table below shows. A rune goes up to level 5.
Rune levels
| Rune level | Recharge | Runedust to raise | Character level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 30 minutes | — | 1 |
| 2 | 24 minutes | 2 | 5 |
| 3 | 18 minutes | 4 | 10 |
| 4 | 12 minutes | 6 | 15 |
| 5 | 6 minutes | 8 | 20 |
Each rune has its own level and its own recharge, so raise first the stones bound where you return most. Raising a rune while it recharges leaves the time it is due unchanged.
Runeshards
Runes are bought with runeshards, not coins. A new character starts with 5, enough for its first rune. After that, shards come from bosses: a region's warden always leaves 1, a dungeon's keeper 2 and a zone's boss 3, each one more for every 10 levels it stands at. Anything else you kill leaves one only very rarely (0.05% of kills). Shards go to everyone who earned the kill (see levelling), each their own, and the panel shows how many you hold.
Runedust
Runedust raises a rune's level. It comes only from bosses: a dungeon's keeper always leaves 1, a zone's boss 2, and a region's warden leaves one 25% of the time. Like shards, runedust goes to everyone who earned the kill, and the panel shows how much you hold.
You cannot bind or use a rune while dead, or inside a dungeon. A cave out in the world is fine: bind a rune there and it carries you straight back underground. Your runes are kept with your character.
